The weapon wasn't what caused Rosenbaum to attack Kyle....the Fire Extinguisher was. Rosenbaum wanted to push a flaming dumpster into a gas station. Kyle used a fire extinguisher to put it out. Kyle mostly stayed at the car lot where many cars were burned the night before. Kyle spent the day cleaning up graffiti left by the previous nights activities. He was attacked because he was trying to stop and or clean up the mess created by the mob. The mob wasn't ready to behave yet, they wanted to keep having their fun.
At first, I was in the camp of people to thinking he was foolish and asking for trouble taking a gun into that environment. The sad truth is that he was foolish and asking for trouble by taking a fire extinguisher into that environment. Think about that for a bit and it will change your perspective. The gun probably really did save his life. Otherwise he could have just been a coward and stayed home....which seems fine until the mob comes to your house.
So if you would bring a gun to a riot for protection
