look at the boggies wheels, the updated version should be a soild center vs the older ones that were open spokes. You want the solid centers. The hydraulics were able to be updated from a priority system to a standard, there should be a sticker on the back by the valve stack that shows the numbers of the remotes, look at the #1 remote on the sticker, if it says priority it has not been updated. The updated version is a lot less headache. Check the fuel tank as well. Lift the hood and if the sides of the fuel tank are smooth with no triangles pressed into the sides it is an old one and they had a bad habit of welds breaking. There was also a fuel filter update that not all of the machines got.
The 3116 max hp I would hope for would be 210 pto, find out when the valves were set last. This is a very important item to keep up on for the tractor to run cool and increase the longevity of the engine. Get a serial number and call a CAT dealer and get a SIMS report to see what all has been done to this tractor.
If it is a wide gauge, 120" spacing, make sure it is a factory wide gauge and not a farmer wide gauge. The farmer version is a double set of spacers with the final drives in at 60". The factory version will have one set of spacers and the final drives out at 80". I know of a guy that bought what he thought was a factory wide gauge and turned out to be the other. Not a happy day on that farm when I broke the news to him after looking at the machine once he got it home.
more importantly take some pictures of the final drives, belts, spacers if any and post them on here. We can figure a lot out by seeing things first hand.
