I see what you mean but he was there to protect, prevent violence instead of cause it. The umpteen other people who wanted to smash some windows probably saw him with a gun and moved on. That's why he went. It just worked out that the guys who got shot probably wanted to make an example out of Rittenhouse and that's where the trouble started. There's a lot of misinformation about this but he wasn't out looking for blood like you may have heard.
So if you would bring a gun to a riot for protection
