What became abundantly clear to me when I became a gunsmith and went to gunsmithing school is that most lawyers, reporters and other people with limited gifts for appreciation of mechanical facts are utterly ignorant about guns and firearms technology. Lawyers and legislators (but I repeat myself) invariably write really pathetically stupid laws and regulations on firearms, because they don't know anything about guns.
