$40K overhauls may be a reality. BUT NOT EVERY YEAR, which is what blue said above.
Our biggest one, as I said above, was not quite $30k when we first bought it, and that was once after 6 seasons of hard leased-out use with almost nothing done to it in that first 6 years, and it was paid for by dealer.
Let me be clear that I was also talking ANNUALLY. In the post above I mention the S690 and that is his overhaul ANNUALLY.
Many large ones in the area are rolling as many as they can every year as they feel that is better than putting the money towards an overhaul. The green and red combines also have full Hillco leveling systems so there is another $100,000 on top in the first place.
There is a major shift in how they harvest around here in the not so nice ground and just can't afford a combine. Many lives Machinelink and must that option. Latest is starting to see custom harvesters coming in but several of those have gone under with the expense.
I'm talking our abrasive ground had been blessed with 100-150 bpa yields of wheat.
Here is part of a factory chrome Gleaner cage after a rental year and one ownership year or 480 sep. hours. Green and red are the same issues from the grain.
Edit to add: I'm not here to argue costs so consider yourself blessed that overhaul costs vary across this country with crops and conditions and that some are less and some are more. I come from an area where they are more and I'm just here to say they are true.
Have a great day.
