| I agree with you.... but the experts at the DMV, who will administer the road test for the truck that THEY can't drive WILL REQUIRE you to use the clutch. Even if you only fool them and make it look good. A guy I know that forgot to renew his licence on time some years ago had to go through the whole shebang in his mid 40's after having driven for 30 years. Examiner got after him about not using the clutch. He looked at him and said he never used the clutch in 30 years.... could shift fine without it (and he could).
Examiner basically told him to get pumping with his leg and make it look good... So he did. He passed.
So... if you're going for a road test, you may find the examiner sticky about that. Mabey not, but here they ARE.
I basically followed that program. Clutched for them on the test, then went back to doing what I always did. I use the clutch for starting away IF the truck won't roll away on the hill anyway.
