Subject: RE: Would you buy a CaseIh 4408 corn head again

Clarksville, IL
we bought a 21 4408 this fall mid harvest. came from a gerringhoff, the header height and tilt is much more responsive than what the gerringhoff was, had some issues early with fluff but everyone that had case was having issues we put a paddle kit on helped a lot. I was told there is a auger speed up kit, i do think the auger runs to slow and does not move the corn fast enough into the combine, compared to the gerringhoff, maybe its me but im on the list to get one seemed in higher yielding corn at 5 seemed to kind of pile up at the back some. I do think our stompers work better on the case. the stalks do seem chewed up more, but newer head to hard to compare. we fought issues with row 2 in wet conditions it would cause fits done everything, bought calmer kit for it never got it on traded head off before was put on. case shells was less corn much noticable in the am, was picking 2 mornings when the stalks were soaked no way could i have gone with the gerringhoff. taking in discounts and multiunit deals it was by far cheaper with a 4408 than a compareable gerringhoff, taking away some of the money the case was still cheaper by a couple thousand. i do think that the roll a cones need to be a little longer on the back side, seemed to have some corn get caught in the hydralic lines. but we ran the original cones from the place in texas got spoiled with them on our MF head. i do like it being a taller head would always have issues with the gerringhoff head taking stalks over the head and falling out, we run brushes on our head taking in more trash. as far as putting chains on gerringhoff hands down better, case needs a way to lock it like the gerringhoff can. Would i buy another one i think so, ask me in 3 years. its seems its a head you hate or love. i was told they made a bunch of updates, i do like it takes down corn better by far
