Subject: RE: Chopping corn head in irrigated corn

n.c.iowa

Here this year the corn stalks have been pretty tough this year and have given the chopping heads a workout. The case heads have been having slip clutch problems at higher harvest speeds, haven’t really seen that before.

Geringhoff heads have all but disappeared from here for various reasons it seems.

There are several operators here locally that are running smaller drago heads on larger combines, thus are running those higher ground speeds, and are getting by pretty good.  In fact it's been our experience that the tougher the corn is to pick (wet, tough, etc.) the better the drago head works.

no matter what chopping head you get though do some research to see how you can setup your machine to deal with corn sap that’ll be in the air that can potentially plug up your rotary screen. It can be a nightmare some days.
