Check out these "Bigfoot" forms that are placed at the bottom of tubes on pier foundations. They offer more resistance to both sinking and being pulled up by wind loads. http://www.bigfootsystems.com/
Your local soil and drainage conditions are going to be the main factor, so you may need to talk to some one locally who knows what they are talking about, like a structural engineer, a competent builder, or a building inspector, if they will be involved.
