Subject: 643 corn head

643 hi tin that is one of those-----"I wish I had a nickel for every bushel". It has been pushed since 1975, 8yrs ago I put the JD plastic snouts on. Light trash piles up in front of the feederhouse in front of the auger on certain hybrids, and some just plug eveything up. I do have a Johnson dust diverter on the feederhouse of the 9500, so "air" from the cyl shouldn't be a problem. Called the outer day about a new cross auger---only 8 in the US. Even though it has been going around in circles for 34 years, it is 13 13/16" diameter. I assume it started at 14".

Had some trasky corn that put me to 2.3 mph--------so it would feed. Called the dealer to price a new head-------ouch 606 for $37,000. Don't think so. He suggested a late model 693, for $15,000.

Story over.....What is the main difference between a 643 and a 693? I can't get a real answer. Is the angle different? Larger cross auger? Has anyone put a 16" cross auger in a 643?

Just don't tell me to go back to the 7700 to slow down.
