Panhandle of Texas | I have had fair luck w/ JD remans. I say "fair" because it has been either hit or miss. When I used to own a JD 4960, it needed a new engine. We got a JD reman, and the first engine used oil like a son of a gun! We were told that it was just "wearing in", and to expect it. Having been around engines most all my life, I knew that the oil consumption was waaaay excessive, but I played their game & even kept a log of oil it required. Finally, JD accepted the fact that it was drinking toooo much oil. Come to find out, all of the ring gaps were in line on 3 different cylinders, and that is what was causing the excessive oil use... (that was the "miss") After that, JD replaced the WHOLE engine (again), and the 2nd engine is still going strong. Granted, the 2nd engine has only about 1600 hrs. on it, but it was doing great when I sold the tractor. ("hit") I guess it's kind of like the automobile industry: I've heard it said that you don't want to buy a car that is made/assembled on Friday or Monday. (Friday the workers are thinking about the weekend, and on Monday they are getting over the party-hardy weekend) |
