I don't mind dealer mark up so much when they have the parts I need when I need them . What chaps my behind is when they ( the dealers ) categorically do not stock parts and just order from the central warehouse when you call for parts . I'll use for an example , since I have the 2007 price list for a well known grain vac manufacturer , it lists dealer cost and retail price ,. A 7' by 12' basketweave rubber hose with no ends retails for $620 + freight, the dealer cost for this item is $403 . All the dealer does is call the warehouse and have it shipped to the customer and then sends them a bill . FOR WHAT??? Making a phonecall ? I wouldn't kick a bit over a $50 buck handling charge or even a $100 mark up for it being in stock there but a $217 profit for making a call to a tollfree line ? They don't even cut a deal when I'm sitting right there and pay for it when they make the call, no cash out of their pocket for a month or anything.
I keep a bigger parts inventory than any of that brands dealers within a 100 mile radius of home .
