Subject: RE: MacDon FD70 to FD2 head

70% more flex, 30% faster cutting speed, 20% more capacity, side draper belts are 8" wider for a total of 50 inches, closer cut, cleaner cut, more torque on the knife drive, knife reversing, stronger knife back, larger wobble box output shaft, in-cab draper speed control, stronger frame to handle up to 50' size, simplified - more reliable AHHC, simplified float & wing balance settings, better feeding, knife sections are easier to change - no more driving the section bolts into the knife back, reel fingers are on an average of 4" spacing for better performance in short or lodged crop, improved hydraulic system that's easier to diagnose & easier to service due to no cross contamination of hydraulic circuits, feed auger can be removed for repair without pulling the adapter out of the head, breakaways can be repaired without pulling the adapter out of the head, hydraulic lines are outside the frame, simplified more durable feed auger finger reversing clutch, 25% larger tine shaft in the feed auger, sealed bearings in the end of the auger, stronger feed auger steel, significantly improved clean out tray under the feed draper, stronger feed draper deck, cast iron main float arms, cast iron bell crank wing flex linkage, heim joint compression link ends for improved - more durable flex linkage, longer life side draper belts, better sealing of the side draper belts to the cutter bar for less trash ingestion, easier service & maintenance of feed auger and reel drive chains, larger reel drive motor, larger side draper drive motors. The triple reel is an option on the FD240 and is standard on the FD245 & FD250. The tine tubes on triple reel headers are aluminum. The triple reel option on the FD240 also requires double knife drive. The performance advantage of the triple reel is being able to set the reel tines 1/2" off the guards for maximum performance in lodged or short crop without cutting the reel fingers off - even in maximum flex. The flex points on the reel match the flex points of the header frame. Another benefit to the triple reel is superb visibility in the center of the head.
