We plant conventional corn so we try to manage the fodder. We try to disc at least 1 time in the fall to start breaking down the stalks.   Our thinking is it helps to not tie up N in the spring and summer.  We are also trying to avoid any kind of disease hanging around in the old stalks.  Some fields we will just disc in the fall once, others (depending on soil type) we will chisel and disc once.   If this is the field's second year of corn I'd up the N by 15-25 lbs. After that go with recommended rates.
