The antivirus scans are current.

I've only been typing in facebook.com in browser to start the log in process, and it ends up as described above. There are some videos I've seen on youtube about FB account recovery, and their solution is following the directions by providing your ID to FB when the 2FA isn't working. Those folks trust FB "security" a lot more than I do!
