Well said Barren...I've done both and I'd take being a full time farmer anytime...In my younger years there were times when I was forced to work 84 hours a week or be fired..It turned you in to a zombie...It about broke my marriage up and I missed out on lots of my son growing up..It was almost impossible to both work there and farm...

The older JD workers may be getting huge pensions but I doubt that the newer ones are...I read on a company site that if you work there 5 years the pension starts at $800 per month after age 60....The non union company I worked for payed good but did away with pensions and profit sharing years ago....
