Cory,
I rebuilt a D2 pony motor several years ago. D6 is similar, just a little bigger. Rings & rod bearings I got from Florin Tractor in California. Main bearings (bushings) I made myself. Some gaskets & parts are still available from Cat, but not many.
As dozer said, ACMOC is the place to look for serial numbers. Lots of info on electric start conversions on there too...
