It's possible to do your own sampling. 1 acre grids are great on highly variable ground that you don't have a history on. Just know that it will be time consuming. 2.5 ac grids are most common around here. You can get a probe from many sources. Oakfield apparatus is our go to brand. Phone is fine. There are several apps available for sampling.
