deep SW On.
Was in Amherstburg , On on the Detroit River , close to Fermii 11 and 1/2 mile (or less from Mi.) and along the river front they have ercted a bunch of Plaques honoring those who gave the ultimate sarifice in WW 1 and WW 11 with a short write up about there family , occupation when enrolled, Military training, ect. Big 1812/1813 war here.
Some were Engineers , machinists , chemist, farmers.....Noticed one had just been married 3 days when deployed overseas...Others had 1 or 2 babies at home....One especially included a letter from his Brother to his Mom that he buried his brother, her Son during a break in battle...He also said he may be next but not to cry , we are not dying in vain.

Then you look at today . we finished an election a week ago Monday , like him or not Mothers, little girls 10 yrs. old, ect. were giving him the finger when he went through the crowd. Fringe party candidate was throwing gravel/stones and we have everyone fighting about getting vaccine or not.

You remind me of Walter Matthau.
Great American actor.
But part of his personality was to off set other people.
Try to disrupt them to get a better conversation.
I watched one of his least watched movies(pirates 1986).

Good movie but really really bad reviews.

Someone forgot Vietnam and Canada and a whole list.

Electric cars started in the late 1800’s.
Jay Leno has I think 1909 electric car.
One of Elon’s fears is a hack that sends all Tesla’s to one place. They’ve worked in it and solved it.

So in the words of a comic movie(sorry Dave enjoy a good movie).
Lost a drum stick true.
Stuck four yrs on a poxy island.
Still crack a smile.(abbreviated).

Man fights for what he lacks the most.

Movie lost millions at the box office and is hard to find.

Kind of like Jerry van Dyke in my mother the car.

You learn something about human nature.

FYI Walter is a vet of WW2 with a lot of medals.

Not to sidetrack the thread too far, but you mentioned Jay Leno's electric car. He did a write up on it a while back, a short but interesting article.
Did you know that his 100+ year old car, still is using the original batteries? It runs on special Edison Electric batteries, that are designed to be cleaned and re-used (by the owner of the car) and were designed to last 100 years.
Think about that, over 100 years ago, they designed the batteries to not be thrown away, to not wind up in a landfill.
Of course, back then it was probably a selling point that the batteries would last the life of the owner.

Problem = distance.
Give example.
Wanted to visit family down in Oklahoma.
So we drove down and had a good visit about 80 miles. Nice fixable house possibly air bnb.
Then we decided to go to fort smith Arkansas about 160 miles. Then we decided to go home about 200 through the scenic mountains.

Originally we went for burgers about 30 miles away.

We did all this on less than a tank of gas.
Gas left over.
Let’s say I used the whole tank.
It would of cost less than $40.
I know other costs.

Tires id bet going to be a issue.
Heavy/torque.

We do have incredible freedom with a system of government thought up by very wise people. And secured by brave young women and men who are willing to give their lives to protect it.

And for the life of me I can not understand how so many people are willing to throw all that away due to fear of a virus and the desire for government to solve all their problems.

I know off topic.
There’s several companies trying to capitalize on the electric scooter/3 wheel transport market.
Short distance.

If they can make it work economically.
I’m all for it.
But for $20000 for a electric 3 wheeler.
I could buy 4 of the car I drive and I realize it’s a business expense.

Even Rogers is screaming reset but as he says.
They can stay in the game longer than you can.
But it’s the place to make money.

So watch closely what really works.

Back in I think 2000 frighliner had a electric semi for short hauls. 4 way steering etc..

Don’t see it any where.

This is a copy and paste

REALITY CHECK -This is the elephant in the room with electric vehicles. Our residential infrastructure cannot bear the load. A home charging system for a Tesla requires 75 amp service. The average house is equipped with 100 amp service. On our small street (approximately 25 homes), the electrical infrastructure would be unable to carry more than three houses with a single Tesla each.
In case you were thinking of buying hybrid or an electric car...
Ever since the advent of electric cars, the REAL cost per mile of those things has never been discussed. All you ever heard was the mpg in terms of gasoline, with nary a mention of the cost of electricity to run it.
At a neighborhood BBQ I was talking to a neighbor, a BC Hydro Executive. I asked him how that renewable thing was doing. He laughed, then got serious.
If you really intend to adopt electric vehicles, he pointed out, you had to face certain realities. For example, a home charging system for a Tesla requires 75 amp service. The average house is equipped with 100 amp service. On our small street (approximately 25 homes), the electrical infrastructure would be unable to carry more than three houses with a single Tesla each. For even half the homes to have electric vehicles, the system would be wildly over-loaded.
This is the elephant in the room with electric vehicles. Our residential infrastructure cannot bear the load. So, as our genius elected officials promote this nonsense, not only are we being urged to buy these things and replace our reliable, cheap generating systems with expensive new windmills and solar cells, but we will also have to renovate our entire delivery system! This later "investment" will not be revealed until we're so far down this dead end road that it will be presented with an 'OOPS...!' and a shrug.
If you want to argue with a green person over cars that are eco-friendly, just read the following. Note: If you ARE a green person, read it anyway. It's enlightening.
Eric test drove the Chevy Volt at the invitation of General Motors and he writes, "For four days in a row, the fully charged battery lasted only 25 miles before the Volt switched to the reserve gasoline engine." Eric calculated the car got 30 mpg including the 25 miles it ran on the battery. So, the range including the 9-gallon gas tank and the 16 kwh battery is approximately 270 miles.
It will take you 4.5 hours to drive 270 miles at 60 mph. Then add 10 hours to charge the battery and you have a total trip time of 14.5 hours. In a typical road trip your average speed (including charging time) would be 20 mph.
According to General Motors, the Volt battery holds 16 kwh of electricity. It takes a full 10 hours to charge a drained battery. The cost for the electricity to charge the Volt is never mentioned, so I looked up what I pay for electricity.
I pay approximately (it varies with amount used and the seasons) $1.16 per kwh. 16 kwh x $1.16 per kwh = $18.56 to charge the battery. $18.56 per charge divided by 25 miles = $0.74 per mile to operate the Volt using the battery. Compare this to a similar size car with a gasoline engine that gets only 32 mpg. $3.19 per gallon divided by 32 Mpg = $0.10 per mile.
The gasoline powered car costs about $25,000 while the Volt costs $46,000 plus. So the Government wants us to pay twice as much for a car, that costs more than seven times as much to run, and takes three times longer to drive across the country.

Yes, they died in hopes that no one would ever have to live under and endure an oppressive dictatorship. Let’s not disrespect those who gave up their lives for us by now giving up our freedoms and personal rights. Today we find ourselves in a situation where once again one segment of society is being needlessly segregated and vilified just like in WWII.

If we continue on this same path there will be people encouraging and participating in horribly unjust acts against others and they won’t realize how horrible of people they have become until the hands of time force them to look back on their actions. It will be hell for both sides on the path we are on.

We need to unite. In the middle ground.

The offices respect shouldn't automatically be granted to the holder.

No one is entitled to be respected. Respect is something that is earned. Casting aside the same nurses and doctors who worked in close proximity to save the lives of covid patients throughout this pandemic is at the same level as casting aside war veterans. Anyone who disrespects or supports such disrespect towards those people does not deserve respect himself.

To sidetrack this thread further (sorry) a good lead-acid battery can last almost indefinitely if it's made with thick plates made out of non-recycled lead. My dad had a TD9 crawler that had the original batteries for over 40 years.
Planned obsolescence is hard to prove, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
