NE IA | I would say it is going to depend a lot on your current set up and how much hay they are wasting and how many cows. Our cows run on stalks all winter long and feed them on the ground. Throw a wire up and dump underneath keeps the cattle off the feed and the amount of waste is almost 0. The other thing with a mixer is you are able utilize feeds that you normally wouldnt be able to. Not sure where in Wisconsin that town you live closest to, but I know that i got a buddy that utilizes potatoes and brewers grains from a distillery. When you can mix these things is where you can start to pay for them in a hurry when you couple that with less waste and being able to feed the cows exactly what they need instead of letting them eat as much as they want. You can put your numbers on a few of these things and see where you would come out. Also as far as a grinder, you dont have to have one. There are guys out there that grind hay. The guy I get charges 8$/min to grind and can grind 15 dry bales in 15 minutes. I cant afford to own a grinder for the amount of hay I grind a year. | |
