Earlier this fall someone posted some harvest pics and mentioned they were leaving ruts where the disc ripper passed last fall . Kinzepower was on the right track when he mentioned that soil density is the key to healthy soils. Subsoiling can be beneficial but I figure it has to be done when there is a problem to correct and when the soil is bone dry (August after wheat) so that the shanks can fracture that hardpan. If conditions are damp, that shank may be smearing a vertical sidewall that will cause a bigger problem than what you are attempting to fix.

I like the unit. We have an old JD 3-shanker that looks just like it.
