If you are working on AC several times a week, you definitely want to go ahead and get a real machine. I am happy with the snap-on one we have. It was not to terribly far out of line compared to a Robinair, and it had a faster vacuum pump, and longer hoses. Also, make sure you have decent support for whatever you get
