Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | I looked at an FD 45. This was not the HD 35F since the one I saw is not hinged as is shown in the link.
The one I saw looked like an evolution of Deere's previous heads with some changes. For one thing since the feeder house is much wider on the X machines, the head must be able to accommodate this extra width. It would seem to me that it would not be possible to use an old head on an X combine.
It appears that it should be possible to put the newest heads on some older combines with a filler plate to narrow up the space. I asked my tech about that when he was out the other day calibrating my new to me 635 FD on my 9770. He said he didn't know what would be involved as they had not run into that combination yet. He said that he understood that the new heads have a different arrangement with a CAN bus module on the head rather than what has been used in the past. They are having problems getting new heads for the guys that purchased new combines. He said they had four customers whose new combines won't be available until October.
The FD 45 (that's the new numbering system) that I saw on the dealer's lot had a brush all along the rear wall of the draper. I do not know if that is standard or an option. I would guess an option. Apparently this is to help seal up the gap where any grain might be thrown out the back. I have not seen a brush in that location before. I have seen brushes in the center from Lankota, Deere and others.
I was looking at the new head quite closely as I removed some guards and sections in the middle of my 635FD and wanted to be certain I had reassembled them correctly. The knife sections, guards, hold downs and flex plates underneath appeared to be identical or at least the same design as Deere has been using.
I would not say that the one I saw is a copy of a MacDon
