I was just thinking of doing something like that for rye in the spring as well! How wide is the head, if I may ask? Is it even remotely in working condition?

I’ve used one on a NH 892. It worked ok but was maybe 6-7’ wide and didn’t pick up the haylage as well as a discbine or regular disc mower. We had some laid over that it would miss. If you have a regular hay mower, that’s what I’d suggest then use a pickup head. A lot more consistent feeding and faster. The cutter head was our limiting factor. Also should consider the moisture level of the crop you’re chopping. It may be too green to direct cut.
