| I like the cane pole idea. My grandpa started with those. A cheap Zebco maybe also.
Then as soon as he is able to handle it , find an old bait casting reel with any rod and put a hoop in the drive and teach him how he HAS to use his thumb for a brake. No filament line, use a course high test and tie a rubber sinker and let him practice on the front lawn. If it balls up he has to unwind and fix himself after you show him a few times. You can have a spare cheapo zebco for practice casting to hit the circle
You can snap a crappie rig and a bobber and fish at the pond with it when he gets good. First rule to teach,,, no life jacket, no fishing.
I still have my grandpas cane poles and minnow seign we used together 65 years ago. | |
