I’m not aware of any new production of this type of machine.

Generally these were a flail type mower that had an auger feeding a blower. This would throw the freshly cut grass back onto a wagon. These did not have a chopping system like a larger forage harvester so however tall you let grass was determined your length of cut. Because of the high moisture content and the longer stems trapping air this green chop would begin heating almost immediately.


John Deere made a model 16a and a model 15a, and likely others.

Gehl made a model 72. Definitely a much heavier machine than the Deere
