No way you can put fuel and oil in a generator, plus factor in depreciation and be cheaper than electric. Unless you've got almost free NG or propane.

Internal combustion engines are at best 35% efficient.

There are a lot of numbers to consider, but from what I gather, no generator is cheaper to run than grid power. Diesel and natural gas generators are cheaper to run than gasoline generators, but they have much higher initial cost and maintenance. You don't have any of that with grid power.
