At what point do you run your pivots off a generator?

I have one half circle pivot on wheels only, that is a mistake, way too high per acre for the convenience.

Depends on how a few factors, but here I have identical diesel engines on similar wells feeding pivots. The difference is that one engine is pumping the water only and the pivot is powered off the grid, and the other engine has a 10HP LIMA powering the pivot as well as pumping the water.

It's costing me at least 3/4" gallon of diesel an hour to run the wheels.

At $2.20 diesel, and 500 hours of pumping, that's $825 of fuel while I'm running, not to mention the cost of starting the engine every time I do fieldwork during the year. Diesel isn't going down in price.

It'd have to be a really expensive connection before I'd put another wheels generator on a pivot.
