If it's putting out 14 V + then I'd look for a ground in the idiot light circuit. The Motorolla is a good alt, or at least the ones that Ford used on the tractors were good, but i'd never pay the 400 bucks they want for one.
It's all Delco 10si's around here. They get fitted up with some bracket mods in a bit over an hour. You shouldn't even need to modify the wiring if the Motorolla has an external regulator. You just get the indicator wire hooked to #1, then jump #w to BAT on the alt and hook up the big wire... then unplug the regulator. The indicator light should still work without modification... If it's wired the same as the Ford's...
I've yet to replace one of those NAPA built Delco's that I've been installing.
