Schochoh Ky | On the h2a program , we had 12 guys and almost all were bad , no English no ambition . We relied on labor contractor to get our workers and not actual people on the ground with references. Two of the young guys just left and a few of the rest wanted to hassle my wife about wages on payday , trying to confuse her .. When we hit a home run with prices going up in 2012 , we cut tobacco acres 75%, and went back to local people . As we all know , prices crashed and here we are raising more tobacco . So we got back in , with people with references. We now have the best help possible. They are great , I have a mechanic, two who love to drive semis , a couple with landscaping backgrounds, and one that has a hundred head cow ranch back home . So he checks the cattle almost everyday . We bale a lot of straw , run three new Holland stackers , and several balers , they service and run all this stuff , pretty much on there own .We will quit tobacco and straw and cows too , if we do not get these guys. I will tell you , there is a lot of these guys without work this year as the wage scale went up for them , tobacco price stayed the same , so farmers are quitting tobacco by the hundreds . My main guy says there is atleast , 200 guys in his village that got canceled this year because of tobacco prices not going up and labor price going up per hour . These guys should be first on the list to become legal citizens , most would be happy with dual citizenship, that way we fly them back and forth when needed, no hassles at the border. H2 a program is a good one , you just need a good person here you can trust to recruit your people . I have gotten two neighbors in the program in the last two months , first of 8 men arrive next week for my dairy neighbor . Didn’t mean to hijack thread , back to pictures of offices, and break rooms please. | |
