The main difference between the quads is the auto quad has an auto button so that the tractor automatically shifts gears within that range as throttle changes. You can change settings in regards to shifting (higher pwr settings use higher rpm shift points).
I only use auto mode when going from point to point with drastic speed changes. So for rock picking or picking bales, use the foot throttle to quickly accelerate to your next spot and then let off when you get close to let the tractor shift back down.

Some tractors will have an eco transmission such as an auto quad eco. These have reduced rpms when in the top transport gear.
