Tomball,Texas | I’ve built two tow bars, the first one I built several years ago on my 5500 dodge and I just bought a 550 Ford this year and built a tow bar for it.Both of them are the same,I welded some 2-1/2” square tubing to the tow hooks and bought a couple receiver hitches and drilled holes in them so they could be used sideways, the A frame is all made out of 2” square tubing and so is the hitch.
Hooking up is easy by yourself, just pull up close to whatever you’re hooking it to,slide the hitch out and put the pin in then get back in the truck and drive forward till the hitch bumps the A frame,I drilled the hole in the hitch to where when the hitch bottoms out against the A frame the hole is lined up to put the little pin in,when I bump the hitch,I just leave it in drive so it doesn’t roll back and I put the pin in,then I put the truck I neutral.
I bought the reciever hitches and the 2-1/2” square tubing pieces from tractor supply, pretty simple and stout, can take the whole thing off real easy.
I leave the hitch in the tool box when I’m not towing it.
