Subject: Re: Ed Winkle.......starter fert question

Belleville, Ontario
Some of my clients have whole farms that are going to be paved in the next 20 years around Toronto. It makes me sad, because not only is the good land being taken, but guys won't even consider tile/build fert/build OM in the poor stuff to make it good land.
We're actually trying to extract nutrients out of the soil in some cases-grows houses the same with or without good P&K. We're doing this by banding dry fert and using liquid in some cases too.
We also have soils that would take a lifetime to build K levels to sufficiency. Tissue tests come back low in P&K all of the time. How do you get enough Mg into the plant if you simply apply broadcast dry?
I agree with Ed, good dialogue - farmers all have different circumstances but quite similar end goals.
