YES, your thinking is correct.
2188 and 2388 and 2588 are same combine just new and improved models over the years. The 60 and 66 series are the same way, but a size smaller than 80 series. The new 5088, 6088 and 7088 are similar in size to the 2588 series with new aerodynamic styling applied ( looks great ) I think Hoobers.com has a history of the great rotary evolution.
