I feel maybe the best thing about zoom is getting good detailed closeup views of crop at a great distance from the home point. At least for ag related stuff.
So more testing.
Took my Gilleys cap to a soybean field. Aiming point.
The first six images are all with the gimbal downward at an angle, guessing about 45º.
Looking diagonal at the row.
Drone height above ground was 3’, then 7’, last 13’
Top picture. At 3’ above ground level, and standard or 1x
#2- At 3', using 2x zoom. Note: drone was not moved
Second set
#3- At 7’ above ground. And 1x
#4- At 7’ - 2x zoom
Third set
#5- At 13’ - 1x
#6- At 13’ - 2x zoom
#7- At 13’ looking straight down with 2x zoom.
Get to the last two later.
I normally take off by opening the sunroof, and placing the drone on the glass.
And ‘Home’ is often not determined until a drone is in flight.
So 0 elevation may be 10’ in above ground level.
But this time I took off from the ground. And made sure Home was determined before the drone took off.
The last two images, #8 & #9
Above post I did a test at 120 meters / 400’. But was confused with the images, not sure what was what.
So redid.
#8 is 400’ up and about 400’ away from the jeep. No zoom - 1x
#9 is from the same spot, 400’ up and 400’ away. 2x zoom.
Now if your drone is say 2000’ feet from you at the home point. And you wanted to get a real good closeup. I would feel a lot better doing it at 6’ above the surface using 2x zoom, than at 3’ with no zoom.
