Subject: Re: Ed Winkle.......starter fert question

Earlton Ontario
Here's my thoughts

2009 being the bag of crap it was has me thinking about how to do it better next spring. This year we got half way through corn planting and decided to pull the starter out of the planter and broadcast because time was running short and rain coming............Therefore half side banded half broadcasted. Corn got 220 pounds starter blend

Canola same thing......got late and wanted to run hard so backed out starter and broadcasted........therefore early planted half starter with seed..half broadcasted. 150 pounds starter blend

Spring wheat and cereals always gets in furrow fertilizers

Of course the earlier planted crops were far better this year and yes they were planted with seed starters although, i'm thinking it has far more to do with planting dates than fertility.

So..........I guess my question was asked to verify whether or not I should try to get more acres out of our seeders in a day or less acres and more total work completed in single pass system.

Our single pass for spring wheat this year was

235 pounds seed starter which includes nitrate, MAP, KCl, S0P4, Gypsum
150 pounds seed
20 ga 32% UAN

total 609 pounds product

When trying for 300 acres per day thats 82 metric tonnes of product

BUT.....then we only ever come back with herbicide!!!!

Thanks fella's
