| Then your slip clutch is doing what it should. Generally the only reason the clutch slips and or the sheer pin breaks is something has blocked the travel of the plunger head. It can be one of two things. Either you had a slug of wet hay get in the bale chamber that was too hard for the plunger to compress. Or the other option as another poster mentioned there is a safety catch to stop the plunger during the tieing cycle. If it is just a slug of wet hay you will generally just slip the clutch and you might hear a little pop when the sheer bolt breaks. If the safety stop for the knotter is stopping it you will hear a loud bang when the cast iron hook stops the plunger dead. If it is doing that have someone walk along side the baler and watch the needle bail. If the bail drops slightly when the length measure wheel trips another tie cycle that will activate the safety catch. If this is happening the brake on the knotter shaft is not working and needs to be repaired. If you are just breaking sheer bolts due to hay slugs you maybe pushing it too hard in damp conditions and you may need to slow down. I attached a picture of the left side of the baler. I circled the rod that activates the safety stop. There is an L bracket on the back end the needle bail holds up to keep the safety stop out of the way. That is what has to be held up until the tie cycle starts.
