Depends which Delco you select. A 3-wire version will require you to connect a circuit through the key switch. A single wire model will require only a connection to the large output wire onto the B post of the alternator. Either way, your existing regulator can be removed and pitched, or else left there to hang.

The downside to the single wire version is a little bit of key off current draw which could drain the battery if it sits for long periods of time.
