. | Today was west and south into the big woods of Pepin County and southwestern Pierce County. There's a single lane road down there marked rustic, followed by a sign that reads 10 MPH, minimal maintenance, water crosses road, and of course it's down in the river bottom where there is zero cell phone reception. My vehicle steered itself right toward it. New gravel added to the stream crossings in the not too distant past and it was soft enough crossing that all wheel drive wasn't a bad idea to engage before crossing. Since the chances of another vehicle coming are practically none, I stopped to let the dogs out. Jack cooled off standing in the crystal clear water and had a long drink.
In the trees growing along a side road ditch I caught a picture of an old Oliver model 18?? pull type combine. Next to it were the remains of a corn picker. I was able to zoom in on the tag which reads Harry Ferguson, Inc. Detroit Michigan. Manufactured in U.S.A Belle City Mfg Co. Racine, Wisconsin. From what I gather Belle City made products for the Ferguson Co until Ferguson merged with Massey Harris Co.
An 1875 school house, now a summer home with very few other homes left in the area that has mostly reverted to woods again.
Lund Wisconsin area was settled by the Swedish, with the Swedish Methodist Church/cemetery refurbished and now has a marker, there's the Sabylund Moravian cemetery and the Sabylund Lutheran Church which is still active, as well as a small older church now known as St. Sofia Liberal Catholic Church. Round barn near there as well.
Enough travel for the week, maybe I can do some office catch up tomorrow, it's too hot to do anymore than a person absolutely has to in this heat.
