Pittsburg, Kansas | Yes, I remember my dad talking about having one on a JD45 combine. An extra cleaning step as the grain entered the grain tank. He said they worked well.
During war time there were a lot of "extras" sold on farm machinery that were not necessarily needed or wanted. But it was a time of rationing and the dealers could sell anything they had. There were also price controls on some things. So it made a somewhat moral hazzard in that it made it more profitable for mfg's and dealers to load something up with options so it could legally be sold for a higher price.
At least that is the way I remember my dad telling it. He has been gone for a while so no way to ask him for sure about it now. I think I recall he had "flax rolls" on one combine that he had absolutely no need for but had to take the option if he wanted the combine.
