Subject: RE: Striped Ground Squirrels eating corn seed

Plant Golden Harvest corn. The squirrels either die or dont like the taste of it. I believe it is the Avicta nematicide seed treatment on the seed. Trust me I have delt with severe squirrel blight. This year just like the last 5 years the only place I have squirrel blight is where I planted seed from another company. It was at least 5 years ago when at that time Golden Harvest only put Avicta on certain varieties. We had several fields that we split the planter with a variety that had Avicta and one that did not. I'm spraying and notice that the squirrels are only eating one variety. I call my agronomist and I ask him "whats the deal?". We came to an educated guess that it was the Avicta. Now after 5 years as well as other farmers in our area noticing the same thing we are certain that we are correct.
