what does it mean when all that is in a post is nt?

'nt' means 'no text' as already described, but to be used properly it should be posted on the subject line as opposed to the message area.

When 'nt' is posted in the subject line, it means that there is no text in the message area; It's original purpose was to be used as a courtesy, so you didn't have to click on the link only to find out that the complete statement was in the message line.
