western manitoba | Contour buddy does a very good job cutting off the ground with the wings unlocked. However, if the field is reasonably level and the crop is standing nice, we lock our wings anyways to reduce wear in the flex mechanisms.
We run 3 Macdon Flex headers, 1 with contour buddy. Its like riding a bike with training wheels, so we try to put the most inexperienced operator with the contour buddy head. Personally, I prefer cutting without the training wheels.
