SWOH | We don’t have annual inspections here. If we did I would guestimate there are a lot of vehicles in this area that wouldn’t be on the road anymore. But I don’t think annual inspections would be a bad idea. There is a good possibility that if people actually could see what it costs to drive, similar to a utility bill, they would avoid unnecessary miles. I think tacking it on to gas prices, a majority of people don’t realize how much of that is tax. They need gas, they get gas whatever the price is. And it’s not a huge amount, but it always seemed odd to me that I’m paying road tax on gas I use in a lawnmower. I’d be in favor of a mileage tax. But I’m sure that would affect somebody else negatively way more than it would affect me, and probably doesn’t seem all that fair to them. Maybe kind of like the school tax debate. | |
