Subject: Field Horsetail or scouring rush management ideas.

A neighbor and I have been discussing this weed as we each have a patch of it that seems to be growing.

Wondering of ideas for management. From what we've found, it spreads via rizomes, but roots can go deep enough that tillage isn't always going to get it either. Roundup and 24D seem to burn the top, but the roots keep living / shooting out. Once the corn is up a bit, it seems to out compete it, but it still seems to grow each year.

We're both in a striptill situation, I'm corn on corn, he's corn/soy rotation. Doesn't seem to have alot of options for control that we've found.

We both use covercrops also. Debated on going back to full tillage on that area for a few years, even (gasp) breaking out the 2 bottom dearborn plow for the one acre or so of area I have if it would kill it. Problem in my case is it's not accessable once the corn in up to do additional management mid season, at the back end of a field.

Appreciate any insights on this weed's weak points to attack.

Thanks
