Neighbor got a set of cordless headphones to wear while watching TV. Has a separate volume control so he can have it louder for himself, and his wife can listen over the TV speakers at a level she likes.
As a bonus, if one of them can't sleep, they can watch TV using only the headphones for sound, and not disturb anyone else.
