In general I think a combine is nothing more than a necessary evil on a farm. Expensive to maintain, and expensive to own. But, going from a 4 row to 8 row machine saved us money. We were hiring 200+ acres done annually. We do a better job than a custom crew, and can get it in a more timely manner. Same thing with buying our own drill. Also going from a 4 to 8 row planter and being able to get the crop in when it needs be pays.
