Good afternoon. I always enjoy reading everyone’s posts on stock talk and appreciate a lot of the peoples opinions on this page. I usually don’t post much though. With that being said I’ve got a handful of projects coming up that involve gates and I’m sure it’s just me overthinking it like usual but what’s everyone’s opinion? One 16 foot gate or two 8 footers? The
They are the heavier duty weld on gates. Not the light cheap ones. My thought was if I went with two 8 footers it would save the corners overtime From sagging. I would appreciate everyone’s thoughts on this. For my H braces I am using 4.5 inch pipe 3 foot in the ground with 2 3/8 pipe horizontally. Thank you everyone in advance.

Me - - - - I'd hang a 12' and a 6' - - - - overlap can make for a very strong gate (that makes the gates your weakest part!).
Then you can easy drive a semi through, have decent clearance and are still staying away from 16' of gate.
I've hung those big gates - - - - they just don't seem as sturdy unless they get real heavy as the shorter ones.
Then the shorter ones tend not to sag quite as much either.
Now if cost is no object a 3' dia hole 8' deep with the post anchored into the concrete and some 1/2 wall on the post - - - - sure then hang that 16' gate. |
