I would like to know how he was able to receive good signal to control the drone when it went behind the pin-setting machines, etc. 

Or, was his editing that good & those shots were always taken with him being in sight of the drone which would be quite a number of sequences?

Obviously there was a 2-3x speed increase, judging by bowling ball travel.

But, still, a very nice piece of artistry.
