Subject: RE: roofing round(curved) barn roof w steel

Local Amish have replaced all building roofs with standing seam formed on site out of flat material. No exposed fasteners crimped around drip edge top and ends.

However have a round roof barn built by Great Grandpa in 1955. It's had 3 shingle roofs and I said no more.Last shingle roof had small individual pieces of  metal corners cut to protect exposed edge of roof to keep wind from getting under shingles.

Anyhow asphalt shingles including T locks which the last 2 roofs were are junk anymore. They found some low rib panels from a supplier specifically for forming on curved surfaces. They were not going to be able to make standing rib panels and make it conform and look right. So while this roof is different from the rest they are one continuous piece top to bottom. I was amazed they could conform to this much curve without kinking. We did have to add a filler strip near the bottom as the roof had a compound curve in a relatively short section that was 2 extreme to bend in and back out in such a short distance.  You woudl never know it if I had not told you that by looking at it. Sorry I don't recall the name of the company or product they used. I just remember it was recommended for this style application.

They stripped off the old shingles and used the same underlayment used on the standing seam roofs. They also had a big Manitou lift and a Genie Lift and scissors lift so working the curved roof was not an issue. Made it far simpler than the way me and Dad shingled it.
